Sophia R. Meyer

Sophia R. Meyer is a partner in the Redding office of Prentice|Long, PC where her practice includes municipal law, civil litigation, labor and employment law, and business law. Prior to joining Prentice|Long, PC, Ms. Meyer was the Assistant District Attorney for Modoc County from 2012-2016. As a prosecutor, she handled a variety of misdemeanor and felony cases including child sexual abuse, domestic violence, juvenile offenders, dependency matters and public administration. With her vast knowledge of the law, litigation procedure and trials, she is often able to resolve conflict while avoiding traumatic and expensive time in court. When mediation and settlement are not possible, Ms. Meyer is a zealous litigator and will fight for her clients in the courtroom.

As an attorney with Prentice|Long, PC, Ms. Meyer has acquired first-hand experience in providing clients with a full-range of services and has developed an expertise in a number of areas, including code enforcement, the Brown Act, law enforcement, labor negotiations, public contracting, public administration, public guardianship/conservatorship, marijuana abatement issues and dependency law. She regularly provides advice regarding wage and hour issues, employment practices, discrimination and sexual harassment matters to both her municipal and private sector clients. And she remains actively involved with her cases through the appellate process and has a winning record on appeals in her dependency matters.

Being very familiar with Northern California, Ms. Meyer has intimate knowledge of the special issues that rural counties deal with, including small town politics as well as knowledge of diverse agricultural issues such as land use, zoning and water issues.

Education and Activities

Ms. Meyer received her Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Business from California State University, Chico in 2005. She received her Juris Doctorate from Cal Northern School of Law, Chico in 2011. She is a member of the California State Bar Association and the Shasta-Trinity Counties Bar Association, and has served as a board member of the Shasta-Trinity Counties Bar association holding the office of Member at Large (2017), Vice President (2018) and President (2019).

Ms. Meyer regularly assists in writing and presenting trainings on municipal legal issues and human resource matters including, but not limited to, Sexual Harassment, the Ralph M. Brown Act, Ethics for Public Agencies, and Conflicts of Interest. In her spare time Ms. Meyer enjoys fostering animals, supporting youth activities such as softball, 4-H and FFA programs, and traveling with Kip the office dog.

  • City Attorney for the City of Ione and Red Bluff and District Counsel for the Southern Cascades Community Services District and Adin Cemetery District.
  • Counsel to Modoc County, Trinity County, Alpine County, Sierra County and Lassen County regarding dependency matters.
  • Lead negotiator on labor and employment matters to Trinity County and Modoc County.
  • Assists Trinity County and Modoc County with Public Administration cases.
